Why We Held Every Language Course Back
A language course built the way a history course is built produces a vocabulary quiz. It can test whether you recognize ir in the preterite; it cannot tell whether you can hold a conversation, and it certainly cannot score an Individual Oral. So we are building the language layer differently, and we are not shipping any of it until the whole layer is real.
One corpus per language
Each language gets a single corpus spanning CEFR A1 through C2, synthesized and adversarially judged once. CEFR level is an attribute of every goal inside it, not a wall between separate courses — so a learner moving from B1 to B2 crosses no boundary at all.
Courses compose from the corpus
An AP or IB course is a specification that references corpus goal IDs with emphasis weights and scope exclusions. Spanish B HL and Spanish ab initio draw on the same corpus at different depths — assembled in seconds, with no re-synthesis and no gap-fill.
Then, and only then, they ship
Every course in the group launches together in September rather than trickling out. Half a language product is worse than none: a learner who can practice reading but not speaking will believe they are ready when they are not.
One consequence worth stating plainly: IB Latin SL and IB Classical Greek SL were pulled back out of the live catalog in August so they can relaunch on the corpus alongside everything else, rather than sit in the catalog as the odd two out.
The centerpiece
The IB Oral Simulator
The Individual Oral is the component students rehearse least and fear most, because there is no way to practice it alone. A textbook cannot listen to you. The Oral Simulator can: it runs the real format end to end, records what you say, and scores it against the actual IB assessment criteria — one score per criterion, with the reason attached.
- 1 · Prep
A visual extract and the guiding question appear, and the preparation clock starts — the same supervised preparation window the real component gives you. Notes are permitted exactly as far as the rules permit them.
- 2 · Present
You speak. The recorder captures your presentation on the extract and its link to the work studied, timed to the real limit, with the clock visible the way it is in the room.
- 3 · Discuss
The follow-up discussion runs as a real exchange — questions arrive in your target language and respond to what you actually said, not to a script.
- 4 · Scored
Speech is transcribed, then graded per criterion — language, message, and interaction — against IB descriptors, with the specific moment that cost you the band cited back to you.
Per-criterion, not out of ten
A single number tells you nothing you can act on. Each IB criterion is scored on its own band, so “your language is a 9 and your interaction is a 5” is a study plan, not a grade.
It feeds the same knowledge model
Every oral attempt updates your proficiency across the speaking skill the same way a practice question updates a topic — so Autopilot starts scheduling speaking work when speaking is what is holding your predicted grade down.

Listening Comprehension
A real audio player — play, pause, seek, 0.75×/1×/1.25× — with replay limits that match exam conditions and a transcript that stays hidden in exam mode. Questions sit below the audio and are answered while it plays.
Reading Comprehension
Authentic-text passages at the right CEFR level, with paragraph numbering, highlighting, and questions that scroll-sync to the paragraph they are asking about.
Guided Writing
Extended production scored on every rubric dimension separately, with a live word-count meter, a task timer, and feedback that names the criterion rather than handing back a number.
Role-Play Conversation
A conversation partner that stays in your target language and responds to what you said. Branching dialogue trees underneath, so a wrong turn goes somewhere instead of resetting.
Shadowing & Pronunciation
Repeat after a native model at reduced speed, then at full speed. Paired with an IPA chart and per-word pronunciation playback for the sounds your first language does not have.
Dictation & Minimal Pairs
Listen and type — the fastest way to expose the gap between what you think you heard and what was said. Minimal-pair contrast drills the sound distinctions your ear is not making yet.
Scoring that respects how these exams actually work
An IB grade is not one score. Paper 1, Paper 2, and the Individual Oral are assessed independently and then combined through published grade boundaries into a 1–7. Being ready means every component clears and the combination clears — which is a different question from “what is my average?”, and the one worth answering.
So predictions are per-component: a 1–7 for IB, a 1–5 for AP, and a CEFR level per skill underneath both — listening, reading, writing, speaking, tracked separately, because they do not improve at the same rate and averaging them hides the one that is behind. Every predicted grade ships with a confidence interval and an estimated label until there are enough reported real scores to calibrate against.

Questions
Can I enroll in an AP or IB language course today?
No. Not one of them is released — that is what this page is announcing. They are in synthesis now and launch together in September 2026. If a language course appears anywhere on this site without a September badge, that is a mistake on our side, not an available course.
Does this cost extra?
No. All twenty-four courses are included in the same $79/mo AP & IB subscription, alongside the 80 courses live today. There is no language add-on, no per-language fee, and no upgrade tier when they land.
What happened to IB Latin SL and Classical Greek SL? They used to be listed.
They were live, and we took them back out in August. Both are classical-language courses that belong on the same corpus foundation as everything else in this launch, and shipping two languages on the old approach while the other seven waited would have meant two courses that behave differently from their neighbors. They relaunch in September with the rest.
Is the Oral Simulator a real assessment of my speaking?
It is an honest estimate, and it is labeled as one. Your speech is transcribed and scored against the published IB criteria, per criterion, with the reasoning shown — but it is a machine estimate until we have enough reported real scores to calibrate against, and every predicted grade carries a confidence interval saying so. It is built to make your weakest criterion obvious and practicable, not to replace your teacher’s judgment.
Which languages are covered?
Nine across the two programmes: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Turkish, Latin, and Classical Greek. Every IB level is covered — Higher Level, Standard Level, and ab initio.
Will there be more languages after September?
Yes. The corpus-per-language approach is what makes that cheap: once a language has a corpus, adding a course over it is a specification rather than a synthesis run. September is the AP and IB set; the wider AccelaStudy AI Languages catalog builds on the same corpora.
